Nephrite is more common and has a wider range than jadeite, and includes jade from China and New Zealand (known there as Green Stone). Technically speaking, nephrite is not really a mineral name, but refers to the compact form of amphibole tremolite, or actinolite. It’s toughness made it popular for use in early tools and weapons.
