Named from the Latin grossularia (gooseberry) for its gooseberry green colour; crystals can also be white, colourless, cream, pink, orange, red, honey, brown or black; when it is reddish brown it is called Hessonite; when emerald green it is marketed as Tsavorite or Tsavolite; massive green is marketed as Transvaal Jade
