Chemical Formula: SiO2
Rose quartz forms very deep in the earth’s mantle, and is almost always massive, although in very rare circumstances, it may form prismatic crystals, examples of which occur in Minas Gerais, Brazil. The pink colouration has been attributed to the presence of titanium, the substitution of phosphorus for silicon. More recent research has shown that the colouration is probably due to the inclusion of dumortierite or similar fibrous mineral Rose quartz often displays chatoyancy (cat’s eye) or asterism (star formation), caused by rutile (titanium oxide) crystals included in the crystal.
Secondary Birthstone for: Taurus and Libra
Aligns with the Heart Chakra
Properties: Rose quartz aligns with the Heart Chakra, governing the emotions, especially love, and is known as the “love stone”. It can be used to nurture, attract love, promote self-acceptance or, on a more spiritual level, love of whatever you hold sacred or Divine. It is extremely supportive for the broken-hearted or recently bereaved, as well as strengthening the bond between mother and newborn. In addition, this wonderful crystal has a deadening effect on energy vortices caused by underground water, such as a disused well, and can dampen electromagnetic stress, so it is beneficial to keep some near your computer monitor or television. Carry or wear it, particularly near the heart, keep some by your bed, or place a (clean) piece in your water filtre jug.
