Before the introduction of pockets, Samarai warriors in Japan would carry their prize possessions in a small carved box, suspended by a cord from their belt. An intricately carved wooden bead, called a netsuke, would slide down the cord to keep the lid shut. Antique netsukes fetch hundreds and even thousands of pounds.
Our boxwood netsuke reproductions are beautifully handcarved in China, each signed by the maker. They are all similar in size, between 3.5 cm and 6 cm high. Each one iis individual signed work of art.
