5-piece sets include the 5 Platonic Solids, 7- piece sets also include a sphere and MerKaBah. All sets come with their own purpose-made wooden box.
The Platonic Solids are the five volumes (three-dimensional or solid geometric forms), which are thought to be most essential because all edges and interior angles are equal. They are so named because Plato makes first reference to them in his Timaeus, in which he outlines a cosmology using planar and solid geometry. There is evidence that Neolithic British people knew and worked with the five solids one thousand years before Plato's time, and there is recently discovered evidence that suggests the ancient Egyptians also had knowledge of them.
These forms are believed to act as the interface between higher and lower realms. As such, they can be used in specific healing treatments and spiritual development. Used in meditation, they can each represent a doorway (although the tetrahedron is most often used for this), and can also be used to aid grounding and to facilitate astral travel. In ritual work, they can be used to represent each element, either together in a protective circle, or individually, to represent the element that would be most helpful at this time, for example Fire (tetrahedron) for transformation or Water (icosahedron) if energy needs to flow more smoothly.
In modern crystal healing the sphere and MerKaBah are often included. The sphere symbolises the Void, and is particularly useful in meditation, astral travel and to release old thought patterns and beliefs. The MerKaBah is the Vehicle of Light (see MerKaBah for more information).
